Farm Payments delay is "shambolic" - Huhne

Liberal Democrat Shadow DEFRA Secretary, Chris Huhne MP has lambasted Margaret Beckett's written statement regarding further delays to the Single Payments Scheme,
"The news from Margaret Beckett goes from bad to worse. Whilst Scotland and Wales have managed to pay their farmers without undue difficulty, the incompetence of Defra on English payments now requires more than just the sacrifice of the Rural Payments Agency. Ministerial heads should roll, as it was Ministers that chose this shambolic system.
"The failure to guarantee that payments will be made by the end of June is a serious blow to the cash flow of many farmers. It will also be a cost to the British taxpayer as it breaches EU conditions for payment. DEFRA must examine ways of compensating farmers for the extra interest payments they have incurred."
