Not the end of the line for Stone Station?
The campaign to retain rail services from Stone Station received a boost yesterday when Tony Francis of the Strategic Rail Authority told a packed public meeting that the SRA was "minded to restore the service as soon as possible" and that there "were no closure proposals at the moment".
Richard Stevens, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, said after the meeting "These comments were very positive. Obviously no decision has been finalised yet but the tenor of all of the Mr. Francis' comments was pointing towards a satisfactory outcome for Stone station. Unfortunately, the vibes in respect of the other stations - Norton Bridge, Barlaston and Wedgwood - were no so encouraging.
Stone Liberal Democrats will continue to campaign for the retention of all stations on the line.
