Stone Libdems campaign to put passengers back on the platforms
Richard Stevens, prospective parliamentary candidate for Stone, has launched a campaign to demonstrate that there is a demand for rail services between Stafford and Stoke. The Strategic Rail Authority are currently considering withdrawing all services due to lack of passenger numbers. "We believe their figures are flawed and we intend to prove it" said Richard.
"We are asking rail users to sign a pledge to use their local station if services are retained"
"We do not believe the SRA's figures are a fair or accurate indication of the potential number of rail passengers. For example, they obtained their figures whilst Stone Station and it's approaches were a building site during the station's recent refurbishment. Poor timetabling and ticketing arrangements have also been a major factor."
"Stone is increasingly becoming a commuter town. The number new of houses keeps increasing. The M6 motorway and roads into Stoke and Stafford are becoming clogged up with traffic. It makes no sense to close Stone and the other stations when trains could be the answer to many of our traffic problems"
The Pledge Campaign asks rail users, and potential users, to pledge to use their local stations. The Survey and Pledge can be found on-line by using the link in the Navigation Menu.
