After last week's bombshell that Tory Councillor Lin Davis was 'considering her future as a Conservative', popular Labour Town Councillor and ex Mayor, Dave Smithwick, has announced he has quit the Labour Party in protest against the government's proposals to change the licencing laws.
He will now sit as an Independent.
"Many people were surprised when Dave actually joined the Labour group having been first elected as an Independent Candidate six years ago" said Richard Stevens, Chairman of Stone Liberal Democrats. "I congratulate him on having the courage of his convictions. I've always admired Dave's individuality and I'm sure that he will now feel that he can take a more personal stance in Council meetings"
